Our winter non-resident writing retreat is located in the beautiful city of  Bergen in Norway. A World Heritage city, featuring the UNESCO Heritage site of Bryggen – the old Hanseatic buildings on the water’s edge – Bergen combines nature and culture. Surrounded by seven mountains, Bergen’s funicular train will take you to the summit of Fløyen, giving you panoramic views of the old city, the fjords, the mountains and beyond!

The city is rich with art galleries, museums, cultural events, great shopping and fantastic restaurants. While we do not provide accommodation on our retreat we are very happy to provide advice on booking accommodation in the city of Bergen. We would recommending taking a look at the suggestions on Visit Bergen‘s website or accommodation in the city on Airbnb.

Litteraturhuset

litteraturhuset

Both days of Picture This! will be based in Litteraturhuset Bergen’s very own unique Literature House based in the heart of the old city of Bergen and focusing on the literary arts. The course will be run in Fosse- Stove, a cosy and intimate writing and working space located next to the independent book store Boksalongen.

We will be providing tea & coffee, as well as fruit during the duration of the course however lunch hour will be your own time to either explore one of Bergen’s famous coffee houses or restaurants, or else discover the culinary delights of Colonialen located in Litteraturhuset and specialising in traditional and creative dishes using seasonal produce. Their home-baked breads are the best!

KODE 4

On Saturday morning we will make our way to KODE 4, part of Bergen’s Art Galleries, with one of the most impressive collections of art in Scandinavia. Here we will have time to explore the galleries and select the image you would like to use for your short story.
