Get to know our tutors: Noelle Harrison on Landscape as Metaphor

Posted · Add Comment

Our workshop leader and retreat co-facilitator Noelle Harrison is no stranger to impactful landscapes. She has lived and written in rural Ireland, Scandinavia, Italy, the Camargue in the south of France, and Scotland. For writing.ie she explores the power of landscape, and how it infuses her novels with imagery and metaphor.

“For me the setting of a book functions on several different levels. In the first place it is literal, providing the physical perimeters within which the characters exist. However it can develop into a means of expressing the emotional states of the characters… ultimately becoming a character in itself. “

Read more from Noelle on the subject here. And be sure to get your application in by January 27th to attend her Setting workshop as part of the First Days of Spring Retreat, which includes a Walk and Write in nature. (Applications by January 27th receive an early-bird discount.)
